Well, I know this is asking for a lot.
But I believe that since moBudget already backs up to dropbox, it would be possible to implement a web app that allows the user to edit and view transaction history as well as breakdowns of transactions. This is probably not going to be practical to implement but I thought it would be a nice thing to have. That way, I can use my desktop or laptop to do my financing when I am at a computer, instead of using my phone.

Edit: Oops, I seem to have placed this in the wrong section, how do I move it over?

Dear users, thanks for the feedback.

We have no confirmation yet, but an overall idea of what it would be:
  • Web based (usable for desktop, tablets, phones)
  • Multi-user (members of your family or small business)
  • Multi-device syncing (use it from phone or tablet)
  • Not just for WP anymore (will run on any modern browser over iOS, Android, WP)
  • Internet connection dependent (offline mode might be available but just for adding transactions)
The classic moBudget(as you know it today) will remain, however this new moBudget will cost monthly, starting $1.99 a month.
Unfortunately, monthly billing is the only way we can keep this app running and improving. The raw and ugly truth is that today, despite being a top paid app and having a 4.5/5 rating on the Windows Store, it sells on average 3 copies a day. That doesn't even cover one devs pizza.

So, we are conducting this poll. Would like to know how many people would be interested and willing to pay for an app like this an average of $1.99/monthly
They have some common technical aspects, but for the user its like different needs so will keep them separated. This one is more towards a new web interface, the other one is still within the original mobile app format.
You're right, I think as developer. ;-)

Planned
Will develop a Windows 8 version for PCs/tablets/Surfaces
(Once the development tools are available and we get the grip on it)
do know that wp7.8 & wp8 will include wallet app in box? maybe you should look at what it is?
Yes must see if integration is allowed with installed apps. Looks like it integrates with web services only.

Dear users, we would like to sense what do you expect the most from a moBudget Windows 8 (PC/tablet) version. For example, which functionality you think would take advantage of the bigger screen?

Awaiting for your feedback.

PS: Please don't expect it to be able to edit data in the Excel way :)

+6

The main thing I expect from Windows 8 version is a full compatibility with windows phone 7/8 version. You edit moBudget on windows phone, then you sit in front of your PC, edit moBudget there, then you once again open data on windows phone and everything is there. That is the main thing I expect.

You could place corresponding charts on pages to take advantage of screen space.

Integration with Wallet Application or some other integration with online payment  systems.

I would like to be able to print reports from Mo Budget.  For example, Mo Budget is great at setting budgets, but I'd like to be able to print a spending report from the past year (or several months) to see how I kept to that budget.  It would be sorted by category and by month/year.  I think it will be eye-opening for me to see where I REALLY spend my money.

Balancion.com has something like that these tools together could improve money management a lot

Any way of having an import mechanism? either from csv / excel or straight from the bank?

I don't have any splendid ideas on the design of a Windows 8 app but I would love to see such an app and I believe the big screen format could allow for more chart integration.
Will mobudjet be free in windows 8 (Pc) if we had already bought the phone version ?

Sorry no, the Windows 8 version will cost additionally.

Is this going to be a different product / solution or is it intened to work with the current moBudget app?

I dont think it would be benifical to pay for a second app which does the same / more as the current app but on a different device / platform.

If the two apps were able to 'sync' then it would be worth the additional charge.

+1

Yes the idea is to both work in sync, and allow multiple users. It will take some time since it is not just "porting" to Windows 8, it's an entire redesign of its architecture since will turn into a client-server solution.

I am very much looking  forward to a windows 8 pc/tablet version that will sync with the phone version. I love windows 8 and apps that fully take advantage of the funtions and capability work wonderfly well and smooth.

The phone version is great for having my info on the go, but a pc/tablet version is usually easier to work with (using mouse and keyboard).  I understand there will be additional cost for the pd/tablet, however once paid for can it be loaded onto more than one machine (I think most apps allow 5) because I have both a tablet and a pc and like very much when my phone, tablet, and pc are all able to sync so that no matter what my info is all accurate and up to date no matter where I last input it.

I think both on the phone and pd/tablet I prefer more of the metro look with tiles rather than lists of bars but if that's not possible its ok.

I started this app just a few days ago in trial mode. Now that the new month started it says I have money left from last month. I really don't, its just because the whole month of income/expenses wasn't listed (I'm not backtracking, just wanted it all in to start by Aug 1). How do I clear that "extra" money without screwing up balances because it really doesn't exist?

Another thought, the safe spending per day, how about making more than one category allowed on the dashboard, I'd like to pick and choose what I see and not be limited to only one.

What about being able to take photos of receipts to input later so one doesn't have to worry about keeping up with them all day and risk losing them.

as will the application for the PC or tablet, much to hit the market?
I am very interested in it because for the phone data input sometimes makes it very cumbersome, the tablet Pc or make things easier with the mouse and keyboard, the extra cost does not always matter that sincronize properly with the mobile.
thanks
I would like to have in the desktop version the following:
- better charting options, eg. comparisons budget-to-actual, historical development of certain expenses
- sorting of expenses, eg. showing the biggest items in each category >5% of the total
- but most of all I will finally be able to make my wife enter the expenses directly into the app, see her categories spending and available amount before she goes shopping, etc. This would be really a step forward!

When do you expect to have the desktop version ready? And will it be also for windows lower than 8?

As for me, the most powerful feature is common family budget. For example http://drebedengi.ru.
Any idea just when is the Windows 8 version coming out? or has it been cancelled? Its been 2 years since initial indication of possible development.
Still waiting the win8 app
Yes, I too am looking for a Win 8.x version. I would definitely purchase if I could use on BOTH my WinMo and tablet.
I'think thry are working in a new code : XLMA (or something like that) . That allows to do an unique code for phone, tablette and PC.

We do need win8 app, the simple is to transfer this WP app to win8 app, it allows us to edit on computer synchronously.

Does the op even have the courtesy to respond to this thread?

If one account supports 5 devices(desktop, tablets, phones), and does all function you mentioned in your overall ideas, and then I will say "Yes", $1.99/monthly is acceptable.

When can we count on a demo version or draft of this new app?

price wise I'm not thrilled, but hey let's see first before arguing.

Ive been looking around for an alternative and have stumbled across www.buxfer.com

Its has an API already present, just needs the mobile app to go with it. hint hint
Well if you can beat that pricing it will be worth sticking with moBudget.

moBudget will remain as is, will there be an option to migrate to the new service?

Thanks

David

Hi guys,

What are your plans for this great product? Is the win 10 universal app coming? Web version?

Love this product, but its scary to keep investing my time and base my accounting on it without knowing the upgrade and support path. Please share with us!

Best regards,
Alex
